The medieval Romans strongly believed in the approaching Deucalian, or the "Day of the Flood," where a second coming of the great flood would submerge the city in divine retribution for its pagan excesses. These drawings explore the still moment of this flood as it recedes from Rome. It was inspired an account by Shelley of his midnight rowboat visit to the Pantheon during one of Rome's last great floods.
