| Shaker Meeting House, New Lebanon, New York..
This building is a remarkable masterpiece from the shaker building program (a period roughly from 1790 to1850). The interior has been sadly mutilated in its conversion into a school library, but its exterior is still as powerful and compelling as when it was built.
Construction was supervised by Shaker Moses Johnson, who worked on architectural projects at twelve different Shaker communities. The meeting houses were painted white to distinguish them from the other buildings were typically ochre or indian red. This building is actually the second meeting house built for the Mt. Lebanon Shaker community, and construction was completed on it in 1824.
